![]() ![]() So really, let’s be honest, the developers want you to use stealth and you don’t really have too much choice. For example, taking out enemies using non-lethal methods and using stealth acquires you with more experience points. The developers obviously centre the game around the stealth mechanics and trying to avoid killing. This is fine, but the more you play, the more you realise you are really meant to go about the game in a stealthy manner. So naturally, I started killing everyone and then afterwards, in the first real mission, I’m introduced to augmentations (leveling up using experience points) and I am given a choice of how I want to play. What I did not know, is you are actually expected to sneak past all the enemies in this introduction, if you are planning to do a ‘pacifist’ playthrough (although ultimately it doesn’t really matter, unless you enjoy getting achievements). So naturally, you begin the game by shooting everyone in sight. No stealthy takedowns, nothing but a gun to fire. Only you have no powers (or augmentations, as they are called) yet. Take the beginning of the game, which acts almost like a tutorial, to teach you the game’s mechanics. The problem is, I found my experience a little jarring, at least at first. ![]() ![]() The ‘tutorial’ pushes you in the direction of killing everything in sight and then the rest of the game tells you not to. I knew it was an RPG/FPS type of game that allowed the player to decide how they wanted to play, which is true to a point, I guess. I didn’t really know exactly what to expect from it (I had played the first Deus Ex a bit, but never owned or completed it and it was a long time ago). So, my experience with Human Revolution has been quite a bumpy one. The funny thing is Human Revolution is one of the games I bought with my PS3. You see, I finally completed the game last week. You might be wondering why this is important, but what I’m basically trying to explain, is why it took me all these years to complete Deus Ex Human Revolution. Not just to go doss at university for 3 years) and had a job. So, having little time and little money, I kinda skipped the generation until I finally bought a PS3 in… 2011, I think? Maybe 2012? It was after I had moved out of home (you know, properly. Despite being a big gamer in my youth, when the 360, PS3 and Wii were coming out, I was in my final year of college and was soon going to university. I was late to the party for the last generation. Consoles: Windows, PS3, Xbox 360, iOS, Wii U.You have to choose it, over and over again. The choices that matter are your actions: Do you go out of your way to avoid killing anyone, despite the difficulty and the far readier accessibility of deadly guns? Or do you accept convenience and greater ease, and go the fatal route? The non-lethal path is by far the harder one, but Deus Ex: Mankind Divided won’t let you commit to it early on. non-lethal weapons doesn’t lock you in for the whole game. Decide based on how you like to play: If you’re going stealthy, you may as well go for stun guns and tranq rifles anyway I’m playing the lethal route and wish I had opted for the stunners, since new weapons generally are in short supply.ĭeus Ex is a game about choices, and that’s why the initial choice of lethal vs. ![]() Your initial choice only really affects your loadout, so don’t worry too much about the long-term consequences. You’ll find guns in the non-lethal route, and you’ll find stun guns and tranq rifles on the lethal route, although in either case, they may cost you a pretty penny and be somewhat rare. The game doesn’t lock you into a non-lethal route if you pick that, either. Likewise, you’ll get a non-lethal weapon if you choose to go that route-either a tranquilizer rifle or a stun gun, depending on whether you request a long-distance weapon or a close-range one. You aren’t going to suddenly kill someone instantly if you choose the lethal path-you’ll simply be given some grenades and a gun (there are a few further choices to determine what kind of gun you’ll get). As far as I can tell, though, this choice doesn’t commit you to anything. Right before you drop into your first mission, your commanding officer will ask you whether you want to go in guns blazing or if you want to take a more nonviolent approach, without killing anybody. 'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided' Arrives this August on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One. ![]()
